On November 11, 2012, the world lost Shamus Pearl O'Daniel -- a son, brother, and friend -- to diabetes. We founded the Shamus Project in his honor, and through our work, continue Shamus's legacy by doing for others what he did for all of us: making their lives better in whatever way we can.
The Shamus Project is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization based in Rapid City, South Dakota. We sponsor a variety of events aimed at raising awareness about diabetes prevention, literacy, and healthy living, especially among Indigenous communities. Most recently the Shamus Project has begun work in area of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Children and Two-Spirited, creating awareness projects around the MMIWC2S issue as its families. We've tried to mold our events around the things Shamus enjoyed and those that helped our family grieve after our loss: cycling, service, and spending time with family and friends.
